Being a foodie these days is great - just take it from me, a foodie! It seems like every time I turn around they've gone and made something else fancy, for people like us. Gourmet donuts? It's like I'm a kid again... but fancy! Gourmet bacon? It's like I'm a lumberjack... but fancy!
But sometimes, between keeping up with the Times Dining section, calling in sick for your shifts at the Co-op, and going to your weekly honey tasting, it can be awfully hard to keep up. Figuring out what a foodie ought to eat from day to day can be like figuring out the difference between a neighborhood that's "funky-urban" and one that's "scary-urban!" That's why I've started this blog - a blog just about food.
I'll admit it - when my friends first wanted me to travel across town for artisan hot dogs, I didn't really "get it." "Isn't this the kind of thing poor people eat?" I asked. But then one of them explained Irony to me. When you're being Ironic about something, you can enjoy it but be making fun of it at the same time! Isn't that fun!?
For example, have you ever heard of a drink called "Horchata?" Apparently, Mexicans have been drinking the stuff for hundreds of years. But as far as you and I are concerned, it's only existed for about two weeks! That's how long ago "Edible Manhattan" came out with an article on the exciting new brew, and all the new artisinal ways it's being used. Horchata: They Made It Fancy!
